From 24 to 28 April 2016,  500 experts in the fields of political science and international relations will gather in the Italian city of Pisa for the ECPR’s prestigious annual Joint Sessions of Workshops. For the first time in its 44-year history, the Sessions will be taking place across multiple institutions, hosted by Scuola Normale Superiore, Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna and the University of Pisa.

Academics at the forefront of the discipline will meet in 24 different groups to present and debate the latest research in subjects as diverse as political violence, protest movements, the environment, EMU, and social media in politics. In many cases, these Workshops will lead to articles in academic journals and books, and may well influence government policy.

Alongside the academic programme, participants can also attend a highly topical keynote lecture by Maurizio Ferrera (Università degli Studi di Milano) discussing two new and foreboding lines of conflict in Europe rooted in the economic and social dimensions of integration.

For political scientists, the Joint Sessions remains one of the most competitive and high-profile events in the academic calendar, and participants will be travelling from across Europe and the rest of the world to be part of it.
